Mark Kensett · Food, People & Travel Photography
Mark’s relationship with photography started on his 9th birthday with
the arrival of a dodgy 110 camera. After several years of disappointment,
a family holiday in Canada staying with a commercial photographer ignited
the desire to be a photographer. Stories of balloon expeditions to the North
Pole meant that soon dad’s SLR was no longer safe.
At 16 he had his hands on a Nikon and was under the influence of an enthusiastic
art teacher who loved photography.
At 17 Mark was offered a job as assistant at one of the largest commercial
studios in the North of England, where trained and cut his teeth, picking
up qualifications and national awards on the way.
25 years later Mark hasn’t lost the boyish enthusiasm for his chosen
career, he specializes in working with people, food and the interplay between.
“Food is so much more than fuel for the body, it’s the glue
that holds families and communities together”
He now spends far too much time lingering over coffee with family and friends
but photography is never far away.
“You know when photography has got under your skin when you are shifting
around in your chair to make a better composition, or putting someone in
better light - I sometimes wish I could just blink and create the image”
He now divides his time between commercial, community and travel assignments,
grabbed time with the missus and walking his 3 children to school.
